One night at karaoke...

Picture of One night at karaoke...

It all started in Dallas in 2022, on a Thursday night that should have been a Wednesday.

Miranda was living in Dallas at the time and, as usual, had gone out for karaoke with her regular partners-in-crime, Samira and Andrew. Their weekly ritual was normally every Wednesday, but that week they decided to switch things up and head to The Old Crow on Thursday instead. (A choice that turned out to be fate.)

Meanwhile, Matt was in town visiting a friend. He wasn’t planning on meeting anyone that night (definitely not his future wife) but the universe had other plans.

While Miranda was on stage giving what can only be described as a very enthusiastic rendition of “No Scrubs,” she noticed Matt across the bar. Instead of walking up to him like a normal human being, she attempted to get his attention by… walking past him on the way to the bathroom without actually saying hi. Subtlety at its finest.

Matt, oblivious, didn’t realize she was trying to get his attention. His friends did, though...and told him to say something. He assumed they were messing with him and refused to believe Miranda could possibly be interested.

Eventually, Miranda resorted to boo-ing him from her table (lovingly, of course) as her friends tried to drag her out for the night. The boo-ing finally worked. Matt came over, they talked for about five minutes, most of which Miranda doesn’t fully remember, and she invited him to join her at the next bar. He couldn’t make it, but they exchanged numbers before parting ways.

The next morning, Miranda sent a very apologetic text for her drunken behavior. The texting didn’t stop. She soon learned Matt actually lived in Philadelphia (not Dallas, as she had drunkenly assumed). Without hesitation, she asked if she could visit. Two weeks later, she flew to Philly.

That weekend turned into something unforgettable: exploring Philly, then spontaneously heading to New York for a concert called Afterlife, and realizing, somewhere between the music, skyline, and laughter, that this connection was something real.

Over the next few weeks, the calls got longer, the plans got bigger, and the future got clearer. Within two months, Miranda packed up and moved to Philly. Three months after that, they bought their first home together.

Almost three years to the day they met, Matt proposed to Miranda at their favorite neighborhood bar, Meetinghouse: the place where so many of their memories were made and where they already felt like home.

And now, they can’t wait to celebrate the next chapter with you.
